Looking Ahead - August 4

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two well-bred types by Frosted (USA) and Blue Point (Ire) chase maiden success at Bairnsdale on Tuesday.

Jourama, 3-year-old gelding (Frosted (USA) x Spring Waterfall (Ire) {Exceed And Excel})

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Jourama (Frosted {USA}) chases maiden success at start number three on Tuesday at Bairnsdale.

He ran a very nice race for second on debut at Newcastle behind She’s Extra (Exceedance) back in February and then ran a strong fourth in the $1 million Vobis Showdown in March behind Big Wigs (Gold Standard) at Caulfield.

He has since had a break and a jump-out and a trial to prepare himself for his resuming run.

Jourama is the fourth foal out of Spring Waterfall (Ire) (Exceed And Excel), she was a winner in France and is a half-sister to the Champion filly Miss Finland (Redoute’s Choice).

It is a very strong family, with another Group 1 winner featuring in Miss Finland’s daughter Stay With Me (Street Cry {Ire}) who won the G1 1000 Guineas.

In recent years, Spring Waterfall has produced an Earthlight (Ire) 2-year-old filly named Spring Moon, and is due to foal to Victor Ludorum (GB) any day now.

Azzurri Queen, 4-year-old mare (Blue Point (Ire) x Vain Queen {Artie Schiller {USA}})

The Matt Laurie-trained Azzurri Queen (Blue Point {Ire}) chases maiden success at start number two at Bairnsdale on Tuesday. The promising mare ran a close-up third on debut at Moe a couple weeks ago, and with natural improvement off that effort, looks a good chance in this race.

Azzurri Queen is out of the G3 GH Mumm Stakes winner and G1 William Reid Stakes runner-up Vain Queen (Artie Schiller {USA}).

She has left two winners including the three-time winner Triton Rising (Sebring) who has also placed fourth at Listed level.

This is also the family of the Group 3 winner and the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Karuta Queen (Not A Single Doubt) and her Listed-winning filly Eawase (Sebring).

Since producing Azzurri Queen, Vain Queen has left a 3-year-old filly named Stop It Oli (Pinatubo {Ire}), a 2-year-old filly by Too Darn Hot (GB), and is due to foal to Shalaa (Ire) in early November.
