Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two promising 3-year-olds by Extreme Choice and Harry Angel (Ire) chase maiden success at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

Artemex, 3-year-old gelding (Exceed And Excel) x Artemis Rose {Lonhro})

Artemex (Exceed And Excel) makes his fourth start at Hawkesbury for trainer Ciaron Maher on Thursday. The Dynamic Syndications-owned gelding has raced in strong company throughout his career and has placed at Newcastle and ran a solid fourth behind the promising Lord Horatio (Stay Inside) at Warwick Farm.

The well-bred gelding has trialled twice in preparation for his resuming run over 1000 metres.

Artemex is from the second-to-last crop of Champion sire Exceed And Excel, and is the fifth foal out of Artemis Rose (Lonhro), a 1000 metre winner who was also metropolitan-placed in Sydney.

Artemis Rose has strong bloodlines, being a three-quarter sister to the dam of Derryn, a Group 1 producing sire in New Zealand, and a half-sister to the dam of Forensics (Flying Spur), a three-time Group 1 winner including the G1 Golden Slipper.

Since producing Artemex, Artemis Rose has left a 2-year-old filly by Extreme Choice, a yearling colt by King’s Legacy and is due to foal to Broadsiding in early November.

Artemex was purchased by Dynamic Syndications and Dean Watt Bloodstock for $120,000 from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Harrybegood, 3-year-old gelding (Harry Angel (Ire) x Flying Hope {Flying Spur})

The Kris Lees-trained Harrybegood (Harry Angel {Ire}) resumes at Hawkesbury on Thursday on the back of two tidy trial efforts over the last month or so.

The promising Harry Angel (Ire) gelding ran two placings at Muswellbrook and Newcastle from only three starts in his first preparation, and after a break and those trials mentioned, he looks a good chance over 1100 metres.

Harrybegood is the last foal out of the three-time winning mare Flying Hope (Flying Spur), who has left four winners with the best of them being the six-time winner Powerful Peg (Rubick).

The family is a bit quiet on black type close-up, but some top class Group 1-winning sires feature including Casino Prince and Onemorenomore.

Looking Back

Profitabelle (Profiteer) - Ran a brave close-up third, she should be winning a maiden soon while Secrets Within (I Am Invincible) ran sixth on debut in the same race.

Satin Serenade (Frankel {GB}) - Ran an honest second, was beaten by a smart one.
