It’s all about sire power for the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Horses In Training Sale with the catalogue released on Friday. The 174 lots represent 77 different stallions including international stars Kingman (GB) and Gun Runner (USA).

For the first time, eligible 2-year-olds from this sale will be able to be paid up for the Magic Millions race series.

Smaller but stronger catalogue

This year’s catalogue is slightly down on numbers from last year’s 213 lot sale, but the sire power is as strong as ever. The 174 lots include two and 3-year-olds by internationally based top class stallions Kingman (GB) and Gun Runner (USA), as well as local Champion Sires Snitzel, I Am Invincible, and Written Tycoon as well as New Zealand’s multiple Champion Sire Savabeel.

Youngsters by Champion First Season Sire Ole Kirk and Champion Second Season Sire Bivouac are joined by proven stallions such as Alabama Express, All Too Hard, Brave Smash (Jpn), Capitalist, Castelvecchio, Farnan, Ghaiyyath (Ire), Hellbent, Maurice (Jpn), So You Think (NZ), The Autumn Sun, Toronado (Ire) and Wootton Bassett (GB).

First season sires Artorius, Best Of Bordeaux, Bruckner, Hitotsu, In The Congo, Jacquinot, Sejardan and Stronger all have first crop representatives in the sale.

The sale has been supported by 28 different vendors, including most of the nation’s best breeze up consigners.

Building a good graduate record

Over the past few years, this sale has been steadily building a good graduate record led by recent Listed Queensland Cup victrix Walsh Bay (Deep Field), who won six in succession last season. Wind And The Lion has won two Listed races over in Perth, while Tyzone (Written Tycoon) won the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap. Krone (Eurozone), another graduate, claimed the Group 1 Coolmore Classic.

“The Gold Coast Horses in Training Sale is an auction that has a wonderful record for producing top tier performers across Australia and abroad,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

“Looking at the quality of horses we have – and from the feedback we are receiving from vendors across Australia – we are confident this record will continue with the 2026 graduates. Prospective buyers can have total confidence with the Gold Coast offering in October with Australia’s finest horsemen and women preparing the youngsters for a future successful career on the racetrack.”

Two other notable graduates are Capital Gain (Ad Valorem {USA}), winner of the G1 JJ Atkins Stakes, and Shocking, the G1 Melbourne Cup hero, who is now a Group 1-producing sire at Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand.

Breeze up sessions all about the data

Pedigrees might give an indication of price at yearling sales, but come breeze up sale time, the data makes a bit impact on the results for vendors. In 2026, two breeze up sessions will be held.

Breeze-ups will take place at the Gold Coast on September 22 and at Scone racecourse on September 30 with the sale taking place on Monday, October 12.

“The industry leading TripleS data incorporates electronic chips providing interested parties with raceday quality data on stride length, frequency and speed,” Bowditch noted.

“This innovation will be back again this year in a boost to vendors and buyers. We have received great feedback over recent years in regards to this technology – it’s great data to help build confidence among prospective buyers.”
