With his Warwick Farm stable boasting considerable depth across all age groups and potential distance targets, Baker has plenty to look forward to this preparation ahead of all of the major Group races in the spring.
Speaking to The Thoroughbred Report, Baker outlined the plans for a number of his stable stars, with Overpass (Vancouver) and Caballus (I Am Invincible) set to be aimed at Everest Day, while Pericles (Street Boss {USA}), Perfumist (NZ) (El Roca) and So You Are (So You Think {NZ}) are among the other proven performers with major targets ahead.
A talented group of 4-year-olds, headed by Within The Law (Lucky Vega {Ire}) and Green Spaces (Street Boss {USA}), are looking to continue their progression, while Paradoxium (Extreme Choice), Blue Door (Stay Inside) and Warwoven (Sword Of State) headline an exciting team of 3-year-olds. Further back, Baker is also encouraged by the next generation, with several promising 2-year-olds catching the eye in their first practice jump-outs at Warwick Farm on Thursday morning.
3-year-olds
Paradoxium, 3-year-old colt (Extreme Choice x Paredo {Better Than Ready})
“He is a very nice horse. He was a good 2-year-old, has a good attitude, has a preference for good tracks and he kicks off down in Melbourne on Saturday in the Poseidon.
“Jason (Collett) rode him at the trials and is traveling down to Melbourne to ride him so that is a good sign and I think straight racing will suit him.”
Blue Door, 3-year-old filly (Stay Inside x Notting Hill {Pierro})
“She has run super in both of her two starts this preparation, behind two of the best 3-year-olds around in Guest House who is a beast and Chilly Girl, while she didn’t win last time out, she franked the form again.
“She will go to The Heritage on the 26th and then we will make further plans from there. I think the time between runs will suit her nicely.”
Warwoven, 3-year-old colt (Sword Of State x Needle And Thread {Makfi {GB}})
“Warwoven looks fantastic, has a great attitude and has been working very well.
“Last time out he was great, but the race pattern worked against him. From a better draw we will look to be positive and settle in the first four and he will run a race.
“I think the 1200 metres second-up will suit him better than the 1100 metres first-up.”
Temptation, 3-year-old filly (Lucky Vega (Ire) x Wonderful Feeling {Encosta De Lago})
“She is a nice filly, she won nicely at Gosford and we will accept with her at Kembla Grange on Saturday.
“We have had luck with the Lucky Vega fillies in the Darby Racing colours, just like Within The Law and this filly has a promising future.”

4-year-olds
Pillow Fight, 4-year-old mare (Zoustar x Slumber Party {Snitzel})
"She is going great and trialled well, she has placed in the Kewney behind a good filly as a 3-year-old, she has drawn a bit awkward this weekend at Rosehill in a benchmark race, where I would have loved her to have drawn a bit softer, but she has no weight and will run well if she gets some luck."
Within The Law, 4-year-old mare (Lucky Vega (Ire) x Contract Signed {Dundeel {NZ}})
“She was returned in good order after a bit of a hit and miss campaign in Queensland.
“We will set her on a Silver Eagle/Golden Eagle path during this preparation.”
Green Spaces, 4-year-old horse (Street Boss (USA) x Outdoor {Redoute’s Choice})
“The slow pace of the Chelmsford went against him last time out, but he is building nicely, I’m happy with him and we probably head towards the Kingston Town.
"The 2000 metres will suit him better and I may even put the blinkers on him.”

Older horses
Pericles, 7-year-old gelding (Street Boss (USA) x Accessories (GB) {Singspiel {Ire}})
“He is coming along well, he may head towards the Manikato which would be interesting as he hasn’t been over 1200 metres, so we may give him the opportunity this preparation, but we do have a few options.
“”He is a great horse to have around, he is as cool as ice and we are very lucky to have him in the stable.”
Overpass, 8-year-old gelding (Vancouver x Walkway {Exceed And Excel})
“Overpass trials on Friday, he will head towards Everest Day for The Everest or the Sydney Stakes, he looks great, he is an owners and trainers dream.
“He ran a very good fourth in The Everest last year and at his best would give it a good shake again.”
Caballus, 6-year-old gelding (I Am Invincible x Calming Influence {Commands})
“He will trial alongside Overpass on Friday, he won the Newmarket last time out and I think he may have come back in a touch better. Like Overpass he will also head towards Everest Day and in his best form he could run well in an Everest.”
Robusto, 7-year-old gelding (Churchill (Ire) x She’s Clean {Redoute’s Choice})
“He trialled very well, he trials again on the 22nd and maybe we head towards a Alan Browne Stakes at Rosehill on October 10.
Perfumist (NZ), 5-year-old mare (El Roca x Taupputi (NZ) {Swiss Ace})
“She has been trialing and galloping well and we may head towards The Tibbie at Newcastle. She can often take a run or two to be at her best, so she will build into her campaign.
“The Big Dance is her main aim on Melbourne Cup day.”
So You Are, 5-year-old gelding (So You Think (NZ) x Tornado Gal {Hard Spun {USA}})
“He will head towards the Newcastle Cup on Friday week, he has ran two great races for the stable, he came to the stable in fantastic order and he is a lovely straight forward horse.”
“He actually ran the quinella behind Thebudgiesmugla in the Caloundra Cup before he came to the stable, he may head towards The Metropolitan after the Newcastle Cup.”
Thebudgiesmugla (NZ), 6-year-old gelding (Redwood (GB) x Hot Pants (NZ) {Keeper})
“He is going well, he may head straight to The Metropolitan now after the couple of leadup runs he has had.”

2-year-olds
“The 2-year-olds just had their practice jump-outs at Warwick Farm this morning (Wednesday) and I had some really nice ones jump-out.
“I have a nice colt named Out Of Bounds, he is by Stay Inside, he jumped out well, as did a horse called Analogue, who is by Anamoe.
“Heart of Congo, a very nice In The Congo colt jumped out really well and we had a really nice Too Darn Hot filly named Summer Sand who looks to have really good ability too, amongst a few others.
“Hopefully we've got around six to eight that head towards the trials.
Out Of Bounds, 2-year-old colt (Stay Inside x Giulia {I Am Invincible})
