In six days time, Magic Millions hosts the first of the three breeze up sales with 174 two and 3-year-olds catalogued for the October 12 auction. The numbers are done and interested parties want to know – who ran the fastest? Magic Millions hosted breeze ups at the Gold Coast and at Scone, and the top 10 times all came from the Gold Coast.
“It was certainly a different deck at Scone compared to the Gold Coast. There was a bit of kickback and we didn’t get a penetrometer reading but it had a lot more give in it,” Newington Farm’s Julian Blaxland said.

Table: Top 10 breeze times for the 2026 Magic Millions Horses In Training Sale
Speed and more speed
Nolen Racing had two of the three fastest times with their Showtime colt, Lot 127, clocking the fastest time at 10s flat when presented at the Gold Coast for his breeze up session.
“He’s a really good looking colt and has got a great temperament too. I don't know much about data but apparently his stride length is quite amazing,” Tal Nolen said.

“He's just a pretty straightforward horse. He’ll be a good horse in Hong Kong. I've already sold a couple of Showtimes to Hong Kong and he would be the best of the ones so far.”

Mark Newnham trains Crimson Flash who recently won for the seventh time in his career, and was sold by Nolen Racing for $350,000, while Young Arrow is a last start winner for Douglas Whyte and the three-time winner was a $230,000 graduate from Nolen Racing’s system.
This is a speedy family with Lot 127’s dam being winning mare Mileyva (NZ) (Thorn Park), a sister to Listed-winning sprinter Alberton Park (NZ) and a half-sister to G3 Eclipse Stakes winner Lady Alberton (NZ) (Golan {Ire}). This colt’s second dam is Group 2 winning juvenile Alberton Star (NZ) (Stylish Century).
Russian Revolution colt, Lot 83, ran his 200 metres at the Gold Coast in 10.3 to be the third fastest breeze for the sale.

“He's a really nice horse too. He's pretty well related out of Don’ttelltheboss. She’s only had the one runner and he's a Listed winner. He’s a nice looking horse. He's the same deal; straightforward.”
Lot 83 is a half-brother to The Machine Gun (Stay Inside) who won the Listed Tattersall’s Stakes as a 2-year-old over the winter. His dam, Don’ttelltheboss (Street Boss {USA}) won four times and was twice Group 3-placed.
“They're not a bad lot, that lot we've got up there.” Nolen’s understated fashion should not be underestimated. He sold Listed Queensland Cup winner Walsh Bay (Deep Field) at this sale for $85,000 and she’s won nine of her 23 starts and nearly $500,000.

Newington’s brilliant quartet
Three of the top five fastest times came from the Newington Farm draft, who also had the fastest time at Scone where the heavy surface lead to slower times than at the Gold Coast.
Second fastest overall was Lot 92 who breezed in 10.11s at the Gold Coast. The son of Kingman (GB) is an August-born first foal of unraced mare French Dispatch (Ire) (Starspangledbanner).

“He’s a sharp colt. He's not overly big, but he's very quick. We've liked him for a long time. Lots of natural early speed and from a European pedigree that’s very active. I think he could definitely be a pre-Christmas 2-year-old, a very exciting prospect,” Blaxland said.

Newington Farm also had the fourth and fifth fastest at the Gold Coast with Lot 131 who put his hand up at 10.31s and Lot 69 who travelled the distance in 10.35s. Lot 131, a Castelvecchio colt is out of stakes placed Miss Super Quick (USA) (Rock Hard Ten {USA}) who is the second dam of Grade 1-placed juvenile Booked (USA) (Yaupon {USA}).

“He’s doing stuff you would think on pedigree, he shouldn’t be doing. He’s a sharp horse, with plenty of size and scope about him. He's obviously got a lot of natural speed. He’s a lovely big horse who stands over ground, very promising.”
Lot 69 is a Wild Ruler colt out of winning Charge Forward mare Breannon who is closely related to Group 1 winner Charm Stone (I Am Invincible).
“A nice colt. He broke in beautifully here at Newington. He has a lovely action him. He did the breeze all under his own steam.”

At Scone, Newington Farm’s Capitalist colt, Lot 160 was the quickest at 10.65s. He is out of winning mare Madeira Bay (Not A Single Doubt) whose first foal to race is a winner.
“The Capitalist that breezed there has been with Rod Quinn at Warwick Farm. He had a jump out there a couple of weeks before the breeze. If he’d breezed at the Gold Coast, he might have gone close to breaking 10. He’s a genuine 2-year-old style of colt which is not altogether surprising given he’s by Capitalist.”

It's about more than speed
While going fast over 200 metres is great for getting buyers to pay attention, it’s the whole suite of data that matters to astute buyers. All the breeze ups data recorded uses the TripleS system.
“The industry leading TripleS data incorporates electronic chips providing interested parties with raceday quality data on stride length, frequency and speed,” Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

“This innovation will be back again this year in a boost to vendors and buyers. We have received great feedback over recent years in regards to this technology – it’s great data to help build confidence among prospective buyers.”

Nolen picked out Lot 117 from his draft of seven 2-year-olds of those who didn’t stop the clock in the top few times - the Zousain colt did his breeze in 10.7 seconds.
“There’s a really big Zousain. He’ll be a bit later horse, and the data on him was very good too. He has a great temperament. I think he could be alright,” Nolen said.
Lot 117 is out of five-time winner Lolita Gold (Zoffany {Ire}) who is a daughter of G2 Wakeful Stakes winner and G1 VRC Oaks-placed Lolita Star (Jeune {GB}).

For Newington Farm, they picked out two other lots to pay attention to in their draft. The Written Tycoon filly, Lot 2 who breezed up at the Gold Coast in 10.82s was the first one to jump to mind.
“She’s a nice filly who has excited us all the way along. A really nice prospect by a champion sire,” Blaxland said.
Lot 2 is the first foal of River Tamar (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) who is a half-sister to Group 2 winner and twice Group 1-placed Belle Du Nord (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}) as well as to the stakes-placed dam of G1 WA Railway Stakes winner Watch Me Rock (Awesome Rock).
“The Pierata from Haybar is a big beautiful strong 3-year-old type of horse out of a stakes winner. For his size, he’s got an enormous stride length, over eight metres,” Blaxland said.

Lot 99 is out of Listed Cinderella Stakes victrix Haybar (More Than Ready {USA}) who has produced two winners and is from the family of Group 1 winner Tashi (Sebring). The Pierata colt breezed up at the Gold Coast in 10.58s.
“We have horses to suit the widest range of buying benches and this will be the best buying sale of the year for those that do their work for it,” Magic Millions’ Dane Robinson said.
Last year’s sale celebrated a top price of $550,000 for the now 3-year-old colt Vincley (I Am Invincible) who is a winner from three starts to date. Overall, 103 horses were sold at an average of $75,388 and a median of $40,000.

It’s time to pick through the data and do the due diligence and see what exciting prospects can be unearthed.
