Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Thursday well-bred fillies by Capitalist and Savabeel chase maiden success at Wyong.

Wyong, Race 4, 3.05pm AEDT, Schneider - Atkore - Pipemakers Super Maiden Plate, $60,000, 1100m

Mayflower, 3-year-old filly (Capitalist x Harlem River {Fastnet Rock})

The promising Mayflower (Capitalist) makes her debut at Wyong on Thursday after showing plenty of promise at the trials, including winning her last two at Randwick and Rosehill.

The well-bred filly is out of the Listed winner Harlem River (Fastnet Rock) who has gone on to become a successful broodmare leaving five winners including the Listed winner and Group 1-placed Harlem Queen (Brutal {NZ}) and the 2-year-old winner and Listed-placed Lady Harlem (Sebring).

This is also the extended family of the dual Group 1 winning sprinter In Her Time (Time Thief) and the Group 2 winner and The Everest victor and stallion in Yes Yes Yes.

Harlem River in recent times has left a 2-year-old filly named Dolly Wave (State Of Rest {Ire}) and a colt foal by Capitalist.

Mayflower was purchased by James Harron Bloodstock, Michael Freedman Racing Filly Partnership and Tony Fung Fillies for $360,000 from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Wyong, Race 5, 3.40pm AEDT, Hunter Pacific - Matchmaster - Omni Maiden Plate, $42,000, 1600m

Miss Black Betty (NZ), 3-year-old filly (Savabeel x Symphonic (NZ) {O’Reilly {NZ}})

The Chris Waller-trained Miss Black Betty (NZ) (Savabeel) chases maiden success at start number five at Wyong on Thursday. Her form may look uninspiring but she has been running in strong races, including at Group 3 level last time out.

Miss Black Betty is out of the four-time winning O’Reilly (NZ) mare Symphonic (NZ) who placed in the G3 Cuddle Stakes. She has then went on to leave the G1 New Zealand Derby and G1 Vinery Stud Stakes winner Orchestral (NZ) (Savabeel).

She is also very well-related being a full sister to the dam of the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner and stallion Savaglee (NZ) and a three-quarter-sister to the dam of the dual Group 1 Oaks winner Daffodil (NZ) (No Excuse Needed {GB}.

She is also closely related to the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Aegon (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}) and to the three-time Group 1 winner Atishu (NZ) (Savabeel).

In recent years Symphonic has left a 2-year-old Savabeel filly and foaled a Too Darn Hot (GB) filly in August.

Miss Black Betty was purchased for NZ$2.4 Million by Mulcaster Bloodstock Ltd and Chris Waller Racing from the Haunui Farm draft at the 2025 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.

Looking Back

Scoville (Too Darn Hot {GB}) - Was unlucky at Bendigo running fifth but only beaten just over a length without really getting clear running.

Horologist (Written Tycoon) - Was an impressive winner at Warwick Farm.

Love Story (Justify {USA}) - Was a dominant winner at Warwick Farm and she should keep on working through the grades.
