Best yet to come from Parmie

The connections of Parmie (Snitzel) have had to have deep reserves of patience and they are happy to continue the waiting game to see the very best of the youngster.

She has taken time to develop both physically and mentally, but her late season 2-year-old form is proof she is on the right track and completed consecutive wins with success at Caulfield in the Steph Hunter VOBIS Gold Ingot.

The race unfolded in routine pattern with the favourite Can’t Be Done (All Too Hard) going along at a decent clip before the pace slowed, prompting a number of mid-race moves including Parmie.

“It was a funny race - she was two lengths last and chasing off the bit and no sooner was I thinking what’s going on her she made up a good amount of ground,” said Mathew Ellerton, who trains the filly in partnership with Simon Zahra.

Determined run

Parmie came with a sustained finish and showed determination to hold off the challenge of Igniting (Starspangledbanner), who initially looked like he was going to open his winning account.

The winner was coming off her maiden midweek success on the Hillside track at Sandown and further improvement is expected from her after a break and justified the connection’s decision to stay closer to home with her.

“We were tempted to go to Adelaide last week for a stakes race so we’ve got some good compensation here,” Ellerton said. She’s still a work in progress.

“I’m sure we’ll see a nice filly in the autumn, the spring will come too soon for her and she’s had a busy prep.”

Parmie is raced by her breeders and long-time supporters of the stable David and Jenny Moodie under their Hesketh Bloodstock banner.

“David and Jenny have been great supporters of mine,” he said. “This filly has tested everyone’s patience, but she’s turned into a racehorse now.”

She is the first foal of the G2 Angus Armanasco S, and G3 Kevin Hayes S. winner Spirits Dance (Statue Of Liberty {USA}) and is from the family of the G3 Mannerism S. winner Red Flair (Testa Rossa) and the Listed Hong Kong Derby Trial winner Hello Pretty (Distorted Humor {USA}).

Parmie was again ridden by Dean Yendall, who said the race unfolded perfectly for him.

“They were going at a good gallop so I wasn’t concerned where I was out the back,” Yendall said. “I didn’t think she was that happy on the inside so I brought her to the outside.

“They slowed up and I crept into the race. She travelled into it well and I'm really happy the way she finished off. She’s still a bit funny and will keep improving with more racing.”
