Big crowds flocked to Newgate Farm on Saturday morning for two parades of the farm’s exciting young 11-horse stallion roster.

“They were fantastic parades with a great turnout,” said Newgate stud manager Jim Carey. “The Australian industry came out in great numbers to see our fantastic young crop of stallions.

“I thought it was really great to see so many leading industry figures, such as breeders and trainers and so on, but also a huge number of the local community who wanted to come out and have a good look at these horses.”

Ranging in fee from $11,000 for Sizzling and Super One up to $55,000 for the Golden Slipper winner Capitalist and elite sprinter Russian Revolution, the Newgate line-up is creating plenty of buzz.

Deep Field, who stands for $44,000 and is fully booked for 2019, has made headlines with the remarkable exploits of his first crop. With 21 winners in his first crop of 2-year-olds last season, he broke the record for a first-season sire based in New South Wales.

That flurry of winners has continued into the new season, with Deep Field’s first crop now featuring 25 individual winners.

“He’s been simply unbelievable,” Carey said. “It was very special that he broke the record for a first-season New South Wales-based stallion, especially since that record was previously held by his own sire Northern Meteor.

“We all know how good Northern Meteor was, and what a sad loss he was to the industry when he died so young. It’s fantastic and very exciting to have a horse like Deep Field on our roster.”

Sizzling has been represented by the Listed winner and Group-placed Secret Blaze, while Dissident and Wandjina have each produced winners and black-type placegetters.

The progeny of Capitalist, Flying Artie, Extreme Choice and Winning Rupert made a good impression at weanling sales earlier this year and will feature in yearling sales this season, while the first foals by Russian Revolution and Menari are arriving this spring.

“We’ve had three fantastic foals by Russian Revolution born on the farm so far,” Carey said. “They’re lovely foals, and the general consensus around Australia has so far been extremely positive on the Russian Revolution foals. He seems to be passing a lot of quality on to his progeny.”
