Rosehill, G3 Iron Jack Festival S., $160,000, 1500m

Race summary

Ranier (Lonhro) made best use of his lightweight and was given an economical run by rider Kathy O’Hara.

They settled behind the speed on the rails and once out into open air in the straight arrived at a rate of knots for a narrow win.

Live And Free (NZ) (Savabeel) finished well along the rails only to be nabbed on the post and Cellarman (Mossman) took third from Invincible Gem (I Am Invincible).

Pedigree notes

Ranier is the only winner so far for Kanzan (Commands), who was a talented mare and won the G3 Glenlogan Park Stud S. and the Listed Darley Crown.

She is a half-sister to the Listed Winning Edge S. winner Kordia (Epaulette) and they are out of a half-sister to the Listed Morphettville Guineas winner Liberty Rose (Royal Academy {USA}).

She in turn produced the Listed Crawford S. winner Grand Jardin (Redoute’s Choice). It’s also the family of the G1 Randwick Guineas winner Inference (So You Think {NZ}).

Rosehill, Listed ATC Cup, $140,000, 2000m

Race summary

Alward (Ire) (Aqlaam {GB}) brought his winning Doomben form to Sydney to earn a black type success with ease.

Positioned behind the pace by rider Hugh Bowman, he was into the clear soon after straightening and once he got to the front 150 metres from home it was game over.

Stablemate Black On Gold (Sebring) came from the tail of the field to earn second money and Tamarack (Redwood {GB}) was third.

Pedigree notes

Alward was purchased at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale for 35,000 gns (AU$66,500) and his stake earnings now stand at $665,000.

He is a son of the dual winner Sharedah (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) who is a half-sister to Maraahel (Ire) (Alzao {USA}), winner of two editions of the G2 Royal Ascot Hardwicke S.

It’s also the family of the G1 Newbury Locking S., and multiple Group 2 winner Mustashry (GB) (Tamayuz {GB}).

Rosehill, Listed Drinkwise Starlight S., $140,000, 1100m

Race summary

A fresh Spending To Win (Snitzel) made quite an impression by leading all the way to end a lengthy run of outs with his last success more than a year ago.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained gelding stepped to the front and, after kicking clear 200 metres out, he stayed on gallantly for jockey Tim Clark.

Glenall (Redoute’s Choice) finished off well, but too late and the favourite Handle The Truth (Star Witness) endured a wide run and did well for third.

Pedigree notes

Speeding To Win is a son of Madame Trop Vite (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who was a talented 2-year-old and won the G2 Flying Childers S. and the Listed Newbury St Hugh’s S.

Her dam is a half-sister to the German stakes winner Goethe (Ger) (Turtle Island {Ire}) and the family of the Listed winner and Group 3 performer Grand Prince (Ger) (Prince Regent {Fr}).

Ellerslie, G3 Eagle Technology S., NZ$70,000, 1600m

Race summary

The Mitigator (Master Of Design) loves to bowl along in front and he never looked like getting caught.

He gave a strong kick 300 metres from home for regular rider Shaun McKay and stayed on strongly for the sixth win of his career.

Beauden (NZ) (Bullbars) sat just off the leader and boxed on well for second ahead of Aim Smart (Smart Missile) and Pinmedown (NZ) (Pins) got going late for fourth.

Pedigree notes

A half-brother to the G2 Edward Manifold S. winner Fontein Ruby (Turffontein), The Mitigator is out of Charming Ruby (Rubiton).

She is a half-sister to the G2 Tristarc S. winner and G1 Emirates S. runner-up Infinite Grace (Prince Of Birds {USA}). The G2 Moreton Cup winner Pretty In Pink (Sebring) also features on the pedigree page.

Ellerslie, Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial 3YO, NZ$50,000, 1500m

Race summary

Two Illicit (NZ) (Jimmy Choux {NZ}) has successfully graduated from a maiden win to stakes success, due in no small part to the addition of headgear.

She had been wayward when breaking her novice tag and with the blinkers on she ran straight and true.

The favourite and runner-up Dragon Leap (Pierro) looked to have the race in safe keeping when he got to the front, but veered across the track to throw away his chance, while Ranger (Ghibellines) and Tears Of Jupiter (Zoustar) shared third money.

Pedigree notes

The winner is a son of Gemini (NZ) (Tale Of The Cat {USA}) and is raced by breeders Trelawney Stud.

The dam is a half-sister to the G3 Maurice McCarten S. winner Easy Eddie (NZ) (Super Easy {NZ}) and is out of a half-sister to the G3 Newmarket Joel S. winner Confront (GB) (Nayef {USA}).

There’s a strong international flavour to the family, which includes the multiple Group 1 winner Midday (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and the two-time elite level winner and sire Elmaamul (USA).
