Callsign Mav (NZ) (Atlante) stunned punters when he capitalised on an economical run to land a winning blow at 85 to one.
The 4-year-old camped in behind the leaders and when the field fanned out in the straight he was through in a flash and hit the line full of running.
A fresh Supera (NZ) (Savabeel) powered home from well back to finish second ahead of the favourite Avantage (Fastnet Rock), who looked to have her chance, and Jennifer Eccles (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle {Ire}) made a pleasing return for fourth.

She raced off the pace and once rider Gary Grylls angled her across heels the filly accelerated in fine style to earn black-type at the first time of asking.
The pacemaker Suffused (Choisir) gave a strong kick halfway down the straight, but couldn’t hold out the winner’s dashing finish, and Alchemia (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}) finished third.
