Perth catalogue online

The catalogues for the upcoming Magic Millions Perth Winter Racehorse, Yearling and Thoroughbred Sales are now online.

The Sale, to be held at the Swan Valley Sales Complex on Sunday, June 27 from 12pm (local time), will have a mix of thoroughbreds including weanlings, yearlings, racehorses and broodmares.

The Sale will include over 100 lots and will feature the Peters Investments Reduction and Warwick Racing Dispersal.

"There's a great selection of stock catalogued," Magic Millions WA Manager, David Houston, said. "From stakeswinning racehorses to untapped weanlings, there's something for everyone."

Swan Hill dealt another COVID blow

This week’s three-day Swan Hill Carnival has been dealt a major blow after it was revealed that no more than 50 people are to be allowed on course at any given time.

Swan Hill Racing Club Chief Executive Aaron Garvie said as many as 4500 were expected for the final day of the carnival on Sunday.

“We had over $250,000 worth of ticket sales that had already been processed and they have now been fully refunded, so it's a massive hit to the club," Garvie told Racing Pulse.

Last year's Swan Hill Carnival was also run without crowds due to COVID-19 lockdowns.

Personal to the States

Coolmore Australia has confirmed its G1 VRC Oaks winner Personal (Fastnet Rock) will fly to the United States on Wednesday to join trainer Chad Brown’s stable.

Personal

Coolmore Racing Manager Rob Archibald told Racing.com it was hoped that Personal could earn herself a shot at the G1 Breeders' Cup for fillies and mares at Del Mar on November 6.

"The fillies and mares' Breeders' Cup would be the ultimate goal but of course, she has to travel and show her form in lead-up races," he said.

"We have to thank the Hayes family and Lindsay Park for developing her into an incredible filly."

Personal has won two of her 14 appearances and also placed in the G1 Australasian Oaks, the G1 Thousand Guineas and last season’s G1 Blue Diamond S.

Ayrton on song

Co-trainer Mick Price expects boom gelding Ayrton (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}) to make amends for his shock defeat in last fortnight’s G3 Fred Best Classic when stepping out over a mile in Saturday’s G3 Gunsynd Classic at Eagle Farm.

Ayrton (NZ)

Price who trains in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr said the lightly raced 3-year-old has taken plenty of improvement from his first interstate assignment.

“Stephanie Thornton, who rode him this morning in his piece of work, said that he has improved a lot and really applied himself and found the line in good time. I also thought he was super this morning; he’s pulled up great in the wind,” Price told Racing Pulse.

“Saturday looks like a nice race for him to get another win, he looks suited to the mile and should be hard to beat.”

Quickie on track

Leading trainer Phillip Stokes is confident high-rating gelding Mr Quickie (Shamus Award) can make his presence felt in Saturday’s G1 Stradbroke H. at Eagle Farm.

The Pakenham-based horseman said the 5-year-old is up to the challenge despite finishing a distant second behind the Lindsay Park-trained So Si Bon (So You Think {NZ}) at Caulfield in April.

Mr Quickie

“We’ve had the Stradbroke in the back of our mind for some time now as it looks like a nice handicap race for him,” Stokes told Racing Pulse.

“He’s been set for this; he’s had a nice little freshen up and we’ve got him going really well leading into Saturday.”

Planet prepared for Stradbroke

Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes believes talented gelding Wild Planet (Animal Kingdom {USA}) is capable of adding a maiden Group 1 to his resume in Saturday’s Stradbroke H. at Eagle Farm.

Hawkes, who trains in partnership with his father John and brother Michael, said the 5-year-old has come through his flashing second-place performance in last month’s G1 Doomben 10,000 with flying colours.

"He jumped out between races at the Gold Coast last Saturday and did enough. He has to handle Eagle Farm, but a month between runs suits and we go to the race with a serious winning chance," Hawkes told RSNCentral.

Tofane back to her best

Michael Moroney believes Tofane (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) is back to her best and is hoping she can show that in the G1 Stradbroke H. at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

She produced a bold showing when runner-up in the G3 BRC Sprint at Doomben last month, with 60kg on her back, and Moroney said she has worked well since then.

Tofane (NZ)

“I think she has trained on to her best,” he told SENTrack.

“Our foreman, Olivia Miller, who was with her in Sydney when she won the G1 All Aged S., said to me this (Tuesday) morning after she galloped her, that she worked as good as she ever has.”

Price confirms Pinkham passing

Promising filly Pinkham (Written Tycoon) passed away last month after suffering a perforated bowel.

Co-trainer Mick Price confirmed the news this morning on RSN927's Racing Pulse program, saying the 3-year-old's health rapidly declined after falling ill with peritonitis.

Pinkham won her debut by 2.5l at Seymour last June before spacing her rivals by 7l in a Geelong trial earlier this year.

She then went on to finish third behind talented types La Mexicana (I Am Invincible) and Mailcorne (Akeed Mofeed {GB}) in the G3 Kevin Hayes S. at Caulfield over 1200 metres at her second career start. She was last seen when finishing third in a BM70 H. at Sandown on March 31.

"She had a perforated bowel. She was perfect one day, a little bit sick in the morning, straight to hospital and they found that she has peritonitis, a perforated bowel. Unfortunately, it's a huge loss for all involved,” Price said on RSN927.

Racing Integrity Board named

The New Zealand Racing Integrity Board will be up and running from July 1 to ensure high standards of animal welfare, integrity and professionalism in the racing industry.

Racing Minister Grant Robertson has announced the appointments to the new Board: Sir Bruce Robertson – Chair, Kristy McDonald, Penelope Mudford, Dr Patricia Pearce and Brent Williams.

“Our racing industry relies on the highest standards of ethics and animal welfare in all three racing codes,” Robertson said.

“This requires constant vigilance, which is why the new Racing Integrity Board is being set up to replace the current integrity system. The Board will be able to impose penalties on those who breach the industry’s rules, including people who put the health and wellbeing of animals at risk.”

Trip to suit filly

Promising filly Tevere (NZ) (Contributer {Ire}) will step up to 1400 metres for the first time at Te Rapa this weekend.

She has pleased in her previous two starts over 1200 metres, culminating in a last-start win and her connections believe she will appreciate the step up in distance on Saturday.

Tevere (NZ) (red cap)

Pam Gerard, who trains Tevere in partnership with Michael Moroney, has been impressed with the 3-year-old from the outset and was pleased she was able to break maiden ranks at the second time of asking.

“She has shown promise all along,” Gerard said.

“She was very good at the trials, and good right through, but she is a little bit of a hot-headed filly and has just taken a little while to put it all together.”

Goffs catalogue online

The Goffs London Sale, held virtually this year on June 14 due to the ongoing Coronvirus pandemic, features an 11-strong catalogue, the sales company has announced.

Among the highlights are the French Listed winner Perseverants (Fr) (Zoffany {Ire}) (Lot 7) and the two-for-two winner Tipperary Sunset (GB) (Ardad {Ire}) (Lot 4).

Wild card entries will also be accepted with the majority of the lots offered holding entries at the upcoming Royal Ascot Meeting.

All’s well with Adayar

Godolphin’s G1 Cazoo Derby winner Adayar (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) has come through the race in good order and will target next month’s G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. at Ascot.

If he completes the double, he would be the first horse to do so since his grandsire Galileo (Ire) in 2001.

“He has come out of the race great. He has been turned out in the paddock and he has shown his wellness. All signs are good so far,” trainer Charlie Appleby said.

“Without rubber-stamping anything, the discussions that are taking place at the moment are that we will give this horse a bit more time and look towards going to a King George with him.

"I think timing-wise it suits him and also we will have tested our mettle a bit against the older horses.”

Vale Rick Porter

One of the most successful and respected owners of his era, Rick Porter recently died at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer.

He campaigned three Eclipse Award winners - Kodiak Kowboy (USA), Songbird (USA) (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}) and Havre De Grace (USA) (Saint Liam {USA}).

Porter didn't come aboard as an owner until 1994 when he was introduced to John Servis by one of his employees and decided to open a small stable with Servis as his trainer.

With Servis, he had his first taste of success at the highest levels of the sport with Jostle (USA) (Brocco {USA}). She won four Graded stakes in 2000, including the GI Coaching Club American Oaks and the Alabama S.

He won his first Breeders' Cup race with Round Pond (USA), the winner of the G1 Breeders' Cup Distaff in 2006. In 2007, he won the G1 King's Bishop with Hard Spun (USA) while Omaha Beach (USA) was another Group 1-winning representative.
