G2 Furphy Let’s Elope S., $300,000, 1400m

Race summary

Beginning slowly, Turaath (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) was left in an awkward position, three wide but close to the lead. The 5-year-old kept finding in the straight to win in a remarkable performance after her wide run.

Turaath’s fourth-straight win saw the mare become eligible for a $1 million bonus should she return on Derby Day and claim the G1 Empire Rose S.

Turaath was almost 2l clear of a gallant-finishing Mystic Journey (Needs Further) who finished on from the back. Fellow Tasmanian mare Still A Star (Toronado {Ire}) rounded out a placing, finishing a neck away in third.

Jockey Jye McNeil said the filly would benefit from a look down the long Flemington straight, "today she was a bit lost with the first experience down the straight. I wouldn't be surprised to see her extend over further distance this time in but for her first-up, 1100 metres was perfect."
