G1 Spring Champion S., $1,000,000, 2000m
David Payne won this last year with last weekend's G1 Metropolitan H. winner Montefilia (Kermadec {NZ}) and is hoping to repeat the dose though his two runners - French Emperor (Tavistock {NZ}) and Raging Bull (Bull Point) are roughies. The former was just even in the G3 Gloaming S but has had only three starts whilst the latter did impress easily breaking his maiden over 2100 metres as an odds-on favourite at Wyong.
Hard to ignore the G3 Gloaming S. winner Head Of State (American Pharoah {USA}) whose final 600 metres was slick. Profondo (Deep Impact {Jpn}) looked a bit lost once hitting the lead when second in the same race and will take further improvement from it.
Alegron (Teofilo {Ire}), Benaud (Reliable Man {GB}), Patton (American Pharoah {USA}) and Satirical Glory (So You Think {NZ}) were also nice runs in the Gloaming whilst the G1 Flight S. winner is here taking on the boys, Never Been Kissed (NZ) (Tivaci) boasting similar formlines to Montefilia last year.
G2 Roman Consul S., $300,000, 1200m
There is plenty of winning form amongst the nine runners here with favourite Paulele (Dawn Approach {Ire}) knowing how to find the line having won half of his eight starts. A wide gate proved costly for his last start and he looks a big chance to atone.
Sword Of State (Snitzel) is another with a last start bad luck story from a wide gate, drawing ideally in three this time. A Group 1 winner in New Zealand, he has won four of his six starts for the Jamie Richards stable.
Chris Waller's lightly raced O'President (Fastnet Rock) did a good job leading throughout to win the G2 Skyline S. at only his third outing whilst Gleneagles (Capitalist) was very good without the best of luck in the G2 Run to the Rose S., winning a Rosehill trial since.
King Of Sparta (I Am Invincible) was slowly away in the Listed Heritage S., not disgraced after finding trouble turning. Adding interest is the roughie Mimosas (Squamosa), the Victorian visitor who is resuming having raced just twice, saluting at Flemington at his debut in May.
G2 Stan Fox S., $250,000, 1500m
This race could really change complexion with the first two in early markets - Coastwatch (Fastnet Rock) and Capitvant (Capitalist) also accepting to run in the G1 Caulfield Guineas. Both have drawn better gates in this easier option.
Both horses come through the G1 Golden Rose which provided last year's winner (Peltzer by So You Think {NZ}) who was fifth in that lead-up. Also coming through the race is Hilal (Fastnet Rock) who was always wide and Moridan (Maurice {Jpn}) who hung out badly.
Cotehele (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) brings in a different form line via a dominant first-up victory as an odds-on favourite at Goulburn whilst Brigantine (Astern) was very good finishing second in the G3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude.
G3 The Nivison S., $200,000, 1200m
Toppie Sweet Deal (Casino Prince) usually comes to hand quickly and has been trialling well in preparation for this home-track assignment, noting that she is already a three times Randwick winner.
Also boasting good Randwick records are Rocha (Pierro), Athiri (Lonhro), Wandabaa (Wandjina) and Geist (Medaglia D'Oro {USA}) whilst last start G3 Tibbie S. winner Madam Legend (I Am Invincible) is back in trip but with a good 1200 metre record.
Tricky Gal (Magic Albert) also loves the 1200 metres and has tasted defeat only once in four first-up attempts whilst Great News (Uncle Mo {USA}) is three from three at the trip. And Minhaaj (Exceed And Excel) is another with good first-up statistics.
The consistent Belluci Babe (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}) rises in class but boasts good second-up form with Bjorn Baker attempting to make it consecutive wins in the race having been successful last year with Positive Peace (Stratum).
G3 Angst S., $160,000, 1600m
Three being kept very safe in the betting here, the toppie Amarelinha (NZ) (Savabeel) an early favourite having run well in the G3 Bill Ritchie H. - second last but far from disgraced finishing not too far behind subsequent G1 Epsom H. winner Private Eye (Al Maher).
Kiku (Zoustar) rises in class off her first-up run but she did catch the eye weaving through the field and at this trip in April she defeated the boys in the G3 Carbine Club S. Grace And Harmony (NZ) (Sebring) finished just ahead of Kiku last time whilst Mirra Vision (Lonhro) is being tried at the mile for the first time... but is hard to leave out on her consistent form.
Silver Eagle, $500,000, 1300m
It is an even field for the third running of this $500,000 contest for 4-year-olds with Ellsberg (Spill The Beans) and Count de Rupee (Real Impact {Jpn}) opening up joint favourites at backable odds. The former was very good first up and boasts a Listed victory over subsequent G1 Epsom Handicap winner Private Eye (Al Maher) whilst the latter impressed with a dominant first up victory at Kembla Grange.
Victorian Amish Boy (Star Witness) enjoys a class drop having found trouble in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes whilst the Listed Canberra Guineas winner Equation (Press Statement) is drawn well enough to improve on his first up run.
A major threat is Vangelic (Vancouver) who looks the likely leader; she was game leading throughout to win the G2 Golden Pendant at just her second run back from a spell.
