Listed Christmas S., $200,000, 1100m
Marabi (I Am Invincible) made it a good day for her Yarraman Park-based sire, gaining a run as first emergency and justifying her odds-on quote - doing a great job showing a nice turn of foot rising in class.
Undefeated after five starts, Marabi is a homebred for Greenwich Stud. The 71st winner for her sire, she is a half-sister to the G1 VRC Oaks winner Aristia (Lonhro) out of the G2 Sunline S. winner Nakaaya (Tiger Hill {Ire}).
Sadly Nakaaya died young last year with the last foal she produced being the yet to race 3-year-old filly Siteki (Flying Artie), a member of the Cliff Brown stable.
Like I Am Invincible's earlier stakes winner Festivity (NZ), Marabi has good Chelandry (GB) (Goldfinch {GB}) influence. Ancestress of I Am Invincible (and of his second dam sire Zoffany {USA}), she is also ancestress of Marabi's second dam sire Marwina (Marscay) whilst her dam is bred on a 4 X 4 cross of her descendant Dignitas (USA) (Round Table {USA}).
This I Am Invincible/Marwina cross has not been given a big chance to succeed with only four named foals - but the three to race are all winners with two now successful at stakes level, the other being the triple Group winner Invincible Gem.
Marabi can boast amongst her relations the stakes winners Sir Amadi (Maizcay), Royal Purler (Hector Protector {USA}), Mishani Warrior (Show A Heart) and Calorific (Desert Sun {GB}).
Listed Lord S., $160,000, 1700m
Tough in the lead, Holbien (Pierro) made it a good 20 minutes for his sire following on from the success of Parry Sound in G3 Summer Cup at Randwick.
Bred by Kia Ora Stud and purchased by trainer Steve Richards for $130,000 at the 2016 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Holbien is a son of the imported triple Group 3 winner Carribean Sunset (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}).
Also the dam, by Pierro's sire Lonhro (Octagonal {NZ}) of the Group placed multiple city winner Lovani, Carribean Sunset is a half-sister to the dam of the Irish stakes winner Giuseppe Garibaldi (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).
A great-grandson of the Group 1 mare Queen To Conquer (USA) (King's Bishop {USA}) from a prolific European family, Holbien is a descendant of Friar's Carse (USA) (Friar Rock {USA}) whose high-class progeny included War Relic (USA) (Man O'War {USA}) whose son Relic (USA) is the grandsire of Eight Carat (GB) (Pieces Of Eight {Ire}). Eight Carat is of course the dam of Octagonal (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), grandsire of Pierro.
Carribean Sunset produced a three-quarter sister (by Pierata) to Holbien in late October with her previous foal being the Lonhro 2-year-old Amenable, a $150,000 Inglis Melbourne Premier graduate in the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable.
Randwick: G3 Summer Cup, $160,000, 2000m
Showing good heart taking a late split through the field, Parry Sound (Pierro) broke through for his first stakes success at start number 28 and it was a deserved one as he had been in the placings at that level on four occasions.
Bred by Goldendale and purchased by Domeland for $90,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Parry Sound is the 26th stakes winner for his Coolmore based five times Group 1-winning sire.
He is one of the five winners produced by the high-class race mare Aqua D'Amore (Danehill {USA}), winner of nine races including the G1 Futurity S. Five times placed at the elite level and winning another three Group races, she is also dam of the metropolitan winners Aqua d'Ivina (Pierro), Diamond Legend (More Than Ready {USA}) and Hydro (More Than Ready {USA}).
In September producing a filly by Calyx (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Aqua D'Amore has a yearling full brother to Parry Sound and a yet to be named 2-year-old filly (a $120,000 Magic Millions purchase for Ciaron Maher) by Caravaggio (USA) (Scat Daddy {USA}).
Aqua D'Amore is one of eight winners for the placed import Romantic River (Fr) (Irish River {Fr}), also the dam of the G2 Sandown Guineas winner Petrology (Fastnet Rock) and the Singapore based two times Listed winner Elite Excalibur (Fastnet Rock).
Parry Sound boasts a lovely pedigree with his sire and dam hailing from the same family - both being descendants of the Group 1 Irish Oaks winning high-class broodmare Djebellica (Fr) (Djebel {Fr}).
