Ascot: G2 Western Australian Derby, $400,000, 2400m
It was a walk in the park for Alaskan God (Playing God) who remains undefeated this preparation... this win the most impressive of them all.
A $90,000 graduate of the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale - bred by Mungrup Stud and purchased by Morton Racing - he is one of the seven stakes winners for his Darling View Thoroughbreds-based sire who won two editions of the G1 Kingston Town Classic.
Alaskan God is out of the placed Lady Alaska (Reset), half-sister to the dual Group winner Great Glen (Regal Classic {Can}) out of the multiple city-winning mare Great Manners (Rubiton).
A descendant of the influential broodmare Schiparaelli (GB) (Schiavoni {GB}), Alaskan Gold can also boast amongst his relations the G1 Al Quoz Sprint winner Amber Sky (Exceed And Excel) and the Group winners Ticket To Rome (At Talaq {USA}) and Truly Wicked (Rubiton).
Alaskan God is the only stakes winner line-bred to the G1 W.S Cox Plate hero Rubiton (Century), and closely too - 3 X 3.
Lady Alaska again visited Playing God (Blackfriars) last spring and has by him a filly foal and a yearling colt.
Caulfield: Listed Redoute's Choice S., $160,000, 1100m
There is Redoute's Choice (Danehill {USA}) in the pedigree of the winner of the race named in his honour, the promising Cannonball (Capitalist) being out of a mare by Snitzel (Redoute's Choice).
Bred by China Horse Club Racing Pty Ltd, SF Bloodstock Ltd and Blake Sandblom Pty Ltd and purchased by James Harron Bloodstock for $975,000 at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Cannonball is the eighth stakes winner for his Newgate Farm-based, G1 Golden Slipper S.-winning sire.
He is the second named foal and second stakes winner for the Listed Merson Cooper S. winner Golconda who at her final start was third in the G1 VRC Oaks won by Set Square (Reset). Also by Capitalist (Written Tycoon) she has produced the G2 Rubiton S. winner Marine One.
Paying a return visit to Capitalist last spring, Golconda foaled a three-quarter sister by Written Tycoon (Iglesia) to Cannonball in late August, sadly her previous foal by the same stallion being born dead.
Golconda is a daughter of the dual Group winner Eureka Jewel (Semipalatinsk {USA}), dam of the Listed Cranbourne Cup winner Sermon (Octagonal {NZ}) and grandam of the Listed Dalrello S. winner Smart 'N' Sexy (Smart Missile).
Bred on a 4 X 4 cross of Danehill (USA) (Danzig {USA}), Cannonball also carries a 7 X 7 cross of the great mare Best In Show (USA) (Traffic Judge {USA}) via her grandson Try My Best (USA) (Northern Dancer {Can}) and descendant Redoute's Choice.
