Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Friday at Wagga, we’ve got two horses to watch. The first is a surprisingly well-bred filly that’s a half-sister to Single Gaze, and the second is from a half-sister to the triple Listed winner Hoss Amour (General Nediym). At Pakenham, we’ve got a filly from the very good family of the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas winner Plume (NZ) (Crested Wave {USA}).
Wagga, Race 2, 12.35pm AEST, The Lamont Classic 2YO H., $29,000, 1300m
Offspring, 2-year-old filly (Zoustar x Redaluca’s Gaze {Intergaze})
This unraced filly has a good kick to her pedigree. She is a half-sister to the G1 Vinery Stud S. winner Single Gaze (Not A Single Doubt), and also to Le Val (Snitzel), a Queensland stakes winner. Single Gaze was as smart as they come on the racetrack, winning three Group races and placing in such Group 1 events as the Caulfield Cup, CF Orr S. and Ranvet S.
Offspring was consigned by Redbank North to the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, but she was passed in at $260,000 with a reserve of $300,000.

The filly was retained by her breeders and, trained by Keith Dryden at Canberra, she will have jockey Molly Bourke in this event from barrier six. Offspring has had just a trial to date, finishing fifth on May 22 at Moruya.
Wagga, Race 6, 3.05pm AEST, Riverina Plaster Works Mdn, $24,000, 1000m
Master Joe, 4-year-old gelding (Unencumbered x Catastrophe {Tale Of The Cat {USA}})
This unraced gelding has taken a while to hit his straps, but he’s been first in a pair of trials this preparation at Canberra and Goulburn, so he’s on-song. Trained by Scott Collings at Goulburn, he carries top weight in this field and he’ll have jockey Amy McLucas aboard from barrier 10.
Master Joe is the second foal from the mare Catastrophe, who is a half-sister to the smart gelding Hoss Amor (General Nediym). Hoss Amor won three Listed races in Queensland, and this is the family of Loving Cup (Bluebird {USA}), who was a three-time Listed winner that was third to Burst (Marauding {NZ}) in the G1 Golden Slipper of 1992.

This is an old family for the Victorian breeder Three Bridges Stud, and Master Joe was consigned to the 2018 Inglis Melbourne VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale by Jazcom Thoroughbreds. He sold to RWH Thoroughbreds for $9000.
Pakenham (Synthetic), Race 2, 1.30pm AEST, GG Engineering 3YO Mdn, $35,000, 1400m
Hesitate (NZ), 3-year-old filly (El Roca x Don’t Dilly Dally {NZ} {Howbaddouwantit {USA}})
This filly is from the winning mare Don’t Dilly Dally (NZ), who is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Mount Kosciusko (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) and Double Babu (NZ) (Centaine), the dam of the dual Group 1 winner Maco’Reilly (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}). The second dam in this pedigree is Plume, who won the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas along with a further eight Group and Listed races.
Hesitate (NZ) was bred at Fairdale Stud in New Zealand and consigned to the 2020 New Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale. She sold to First Light Racing, Busuttin Racing and Paul Willetts for NZ$45,000.

This race will be the filly’s third. She was placed in both of her previous two starts at Pakenham and Sale, and, trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young at Cranbourne, she will have jockey Craig Newitt in this race from barrier six.
Looking Back
Our Looking Ahead selections for Thursday went reasonably well. At Wyong, Razeta (Deep Field) was a classy winner at a good price, and Do Well Legend (Not A Single Doubt) was a scratching. At Ipswich, All That Pizzazz (Spirit Of Boom) was second.
