Trapeze Artist | Standing at Widden Stud
The Gary Portelli-trained colt Flying Trapeze (Trapeze Artist) seems to have come back better this preparation after having three starts prior to Christmas in races the calibre of the G3 Breeders’ Plate. Is It Me, due for change of luck
Daniel Bowman is hoping his talented galloper Is It Me (Iffraaj {GB}) will atone for a luckless second at Flemington last start in Saturday’s Listed Bendigo Guineas.
Speaking to Racing.com Bowman said: “He’s really good, tightened up, fitter. Not drawing barrier one is an advantage. I’m really happy with him, it’s a nice race to see where he’s at.”
Is It Me demolished his rivals by 7l in a Penhurst maiden last November and won convincingly in Adelaide at BM62 level before heading for a break. It will be the 3-year-old gelding’s first start in stakes company and he will be partnered by Declan Bates.

McKay ready to unleash Henry Hubber
Invercargill trainer Sally McKay is relaxed ahead of her emerging star Henry Hubber (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle {Ire}) run in Sunday’s Waxy’s Irish Pub H. at their home track of Invercargill.
It’s a far cry from the early days of Henry Hubber’s career when McKay was at her wits’ end trying to figure out why the horse wasn’t producing the performance's she knew he was capable of.
“We found a couple of niggly problems with him which the vet treated for and through that we found he had tightness in his stifle,” McKay said.
With no tension in his stifles, the 4-year-old gelding produced a brilliant last-to-first win at Gore earlier in March.
“He’s trained really well since that win. I’m thrilled with him.”
‘Small Adjustments’ Made to Whip Rules
A selection of small adjustments have been introduced to the new whip rules, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) announced on Thursday. There has been ongoing communication between the Professional Jockeys' Association (PJA), senior jockeys under both codes and the BHA, and the rule adjustments are the result.
“We are very grateful to the PJA and to our jockeys, both for the manner in which they continue to adapt to riding under the new rules, and their constructive engagement which the process which has helped bring about these further improvements,” said Brant Dunshea, chief regulatory officer for the BHA. “We will continue to liaise with the PJA and jockeys as we continue the roll-out and embedding of the new rules.”
The repeat offence rule has been changed so any jockey will be referred to the Independent Judicial Panel following their third above permitted level-only offence within a six-month period. A rule has now been changed regarding riding fees should a rider be disqualified from a race due to excessive use of the whip they will also forfeit their riding fee. For further information on changes, please visit the BHA website.
