Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Saturday the spotlight will be cast on three well-related colts running across Australia.
Flemington, Race 1, 11.50am AEST, The Royal Children's Hospital Trophy, $150,000, 1200m
Perovic, 2-year-old colt (Pierro x Breakfast In Bed {Hussonet {USA}})
The Victorian-based trainer Danny O’Brien will debut a well-related son of Pierro, Perovic, at Flemington on Saturday.
Perovic was bought as part of the Rosemont-Victorian Alliance and will race in the group's silks. The concept is designed to boost the Victorian stallion ranks by purchasing well-bred colts in hopes their track deeds hold them in good stead to stand at a stud.
Perovic is the fifth foal from the Hussonet (USA) mare Breakfast In Bed. She was a talented racehorse winning seven times and placing three times at Listed level. However, it has been at stud where Breakfast In Bed has shone brightest; she is the dam of King’s Legacy, the now Coolmore Stud-based sire was a dual elite-level winner of the G1 Sires’ Produce S. and the G1 Champagne S.

Breakfast In Bed is a half-sister to Oohood (I Am Invincible). Although only a winner once, it was a good one to claim, the G1 Flight S. in addition, Oohood was placed in the G1 Golden Slipper, G1 Sires’ Produce S., the G1 Blue Diamond S. and the G1 Caulfield Guineas.
Furthermore, this is the family of the much-missed Not A Single Doubt.
Perovic was a $675,000 yearling purchase by Rosemont-Victorian Alliance, Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) and David Redvers Bloodstock from the draft of Segenhoe Thoroughbreds at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Eagle Farm, Race 1, 11.43am AEST, Listed Ascot Green The Phoenix, $160,000, 1500m
Influential, 2-year-old colt (The Autumn Sun x Progressive {Street Cry {Ire}})
Chris Waller will chase a Listed victory with Influential, a son of Waller’s former star, The Autumn Sun.
Influential debuted in the G3 Ken Russell Memorial at the Sunshine Coast over 1200 metres and ran fifth behind Russian Alliance (Russian Revolution). The step-up to 1500 metres should suit the colt.
Influential is the fourth foal from the Street Cry (Ire) mare Progressive. She was a four-time winner and is a sister to Transfers, who is the dam of Promotions (Exceed And Excel) who won the Listed Canberra Guineas and Tom Kitten (Harry Angel {Ire}) who claimed the Listed Fernhill H. and finished fourth in the G1 Champagne S. in the autumn.

Dazzle Legend, 2-year-old colt (Zoustar x Canny Time {Canny Lad})

Dazzle Legend is the third foal from the Canny Lad mare Canny Time. She was placed as a 3-year-old and is a half-sister to Charlie Boy, a son of Myboycharlie (Ire), a winner of five races, including the G2 Danehill S. and G3 Liverpool City Cup; in addition, he was placed in the G1 Doomben 10,000.

Looking Back
Defiant Spirit (Spirit Of Boom) showed considerable ability by winning on debut at the Sunshine Coast on Friday, while That's All Good (All Too Hard) was unplaced at the venue. We will have to wait another day to see Navy Girl (Merchant Navy) go around as she was scratched from her engagment at Pakenham on Friday.
