Just Glamourous (Justify {USA}) the lightly raced 4-year-old daughter of Global Glamour (Star Witness) won nicely at Newcastle on Thursday.
Global Glamour is the most recent horse to win two Group 1 races within a week in two different states. In the spring of 2016 at just her fourth start, Global Glamour won Sydney’s G1 Flight S. on October 1 and the following Saturday she appeared in Melbourne for the G1 1000 Guineas which she won by a length from I Am A Star (I Am Invincible).

Her second foal, Just Glamourous, won her maiden race on Thursday at Newcastle at only her third raceday start for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. Ridden by Rachel King over 1200 metres, she led down the straight to win by 0.59l from the fast-finishing Team Hawkes-trained Madam Instrife (Russian Revolution) with Sam Kavanagh-trained Lady Ichikawa (No Nay Never {USA}) in third.
“My word, it was a lot of fun (with) Global Glamour, and this mare will be a lot of fun also. And the Justifys they do handle the wet,” said stable rep Neil Paine. “That won’t be her only win. This mare’s a horse with a lot of promise. Gai and Adrian have taken their time with her and I think she’ll keep improving. A beautiful type and her coat was glowing. A good win today on a heavy track. Gai and Adrian will look for something in the city for her next and try to get that on her page.”

Rachel King was equally as effusive in her praise, saying, “Credit to the team and everyone at home. They’ve had a lot of patience with her, and she’s paid them off today. She’s a filly with a bright future and has plenty more to come.”
“She put up with the track today but I think she’ll be a lot better on a better surface. She did everything right pre-race, she was perfect going around with the pony and in the gates which is a big positive for her, so it’s onwards and upwards for her. I think she’ll get further, she’s a relaxed type in the running. She’s always felt like she wants 14, and that’ll be no problem at all for her.”
Just Glamourous now has a record of a win from three starts. First seen as a December 2-year-old, she ran fourth in a Sydney race behind Royal Entrance (Snitzel) who won the Gold Coast Gold Nugget at his next start. A month later she ran in the G3 Widden S., won by Learning To Fly (Justify {USA}). Just Glamourous has had more than 18 months away from the races since her juvenile season, and Thursday’s win showed that she’s come back in style.
Global Glamour's full race record
A $65,000 yearling purchase by James Bester Bloodstock from Lauriston Farm at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Global Glamour won five of her 19 starts and over $1.5 million.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse, Global Glamour had shown promise immediately as a winner on debut as a January 2-year-old. Adrian Bott was announced as Gai Waterhouse’s new training partner prior to Global Glamour’s 3-year-old season. She showed nothing much in her first two starts at three. None of that mattered because she found the winning post to make history with her dual Group 1 wins immediately after that.
Back in the autumn, she again missed first up, then ran second in the R. Listed Magic Millions 3YO Guineas before heading back to Sydney to win the G2 Light Fingers S. and run third in the G2 Surround S. She struggled in the G1 Coolmore Classic but bounced back to run second in the G2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint behind Derryn, who now stands in New Zealand.
At four, she won the G2 Tristarc S. first-up, then a poor run in the G1 Myer Classic had her astute trainer sending her to the spelling paddock. Back for another autumn tilt, Global Glamour again kicked off on the Gold Coast before coming home to Sydney where four starts resulted in seconds in the G1 Canterbury S. and G2 Apollo S. She had one more run in the spring as a 5-year-old before being retired to stud.
Sales and progeny
She was sold as a breeding prospect at the Magic Millions National Sale of 2019, consigned by Widden Stud, and purchased by Coolmore in partnership with Gerry Harvey and James Bester for $1.55 million.

Global Glamour’s first foal is 5-year-old gelding Scientist (Zoustar) who won twice in Australia as a 3-year-old from four starts before being sold to Hong Kong where he races as Amazing Run. He was a $600,000 purchase from Coolmore Stud by Global Glamour’s trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Her second foal, Just Glamourous, was also presented by Coolmore Stud and was purchased by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, this time in conjunction with Kestrel Thoroughbreds. She made $900,000 in the ring at the 2022.

Her breeding record and pedigree
Sadly, Global Glamour’s 2021 foal by I Am Invincible was born dead, and then that season, she missed to the same Champion Sire, and so had no foal in 2022. Sent to Snitzel in 2022, Global Glamour produced a 2023 filly and is in foal to St Mark’s Basilica (Fr).
Global Glamour is the only winner, from five to race, for her dam, Spectacula (Testa Rossa) who won twice as a 2-year-old with a win at Moonee Valley as her best effort. Global Glamour’s second and third dams were also minor winners but it isn’t until her fourth dam that you find another stakes winner; G3 Liverpool City Cup winner Sam Sung A Song (Timber Country {USA}).
Global Glamour is by far the standout horse in her female pedigree, and she is a daughter of Widden Stud’s Star Witness who stands in 2024 for $8800 inc GST. He is the sire of 24 stakes winners and in 2023/24, he added G2 Eclipse S. winner Bellatrix Star who looks to be an exciting filly as she heads into her Classic season.
