Winner of last season’s G1 Australian Oaks, with four wins from 11 starts and earnings over $1.1million, Autumn Angel was recently retired with a tendon injury. She is a daughter of Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed Angel Of Mercy (Hussonet {USA}).

Warmonger still building towards Cup

Warmonger (NZ) (War Decree {USA}) will run in Saturday’s G1 Turnbull S. at Flemington but his trainers, Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, don’t believe he’ll win as he’s still building to his main targets.

“I thought he ran really well in the Makybe Diva,” Price told racing.com. “I thought he went super, you've got to use race day as the ultimate guide and he found and he found and he found and made good ground.

“We get a measure of how he's going on Saturday, but I know out here he's been perfect and every gallop he's had has been good. He only had four weeks off after the Queensland Derby so I think fitness-wise he's just about as good as where we can have him.”

Mr Brightside stays in Melbourne

Lindsay Park's Mr Brightside (NZ) (Bullbars) will stay in Melbourne for his final run before the G1 Cox Plate, rather than head to Sydney like his rival Pride Of Jenni (Pride Of Dubai). “He's going to the Caulfield Stakes (Might And Power Stakes) next,” Ben Hayes told racenet.com.au.

“There was always a discussion about it (the King Charles) and most likely we're not heading there now. I think the main aim of this prep will be the Cox Plate.”

Of his last start second in the G2 Feehan, Hayes said, “He did his best work to the line and the best part of his race was his final 200 metres. He's had three good, hard runs and I think 2000 metres will be spot on for him now. The horse is fantastic. We could not be happier with him, and he's come through the run really well.”

Pericles weighted out of Epsom

Trainer James Cummings won’t run Pericles (Street Boss {USA}) in the G1 Epsom, citing his weight as the reason. “I don't think it is likely I will run Pericles in the Epsom,” Cummings told racenet.com.au.

“He has 57.5kg and that is a lot to ask of a horse that is yet to win a Group 1 race. Perhaps his suitable race is the Hill Stakes at weight-for-age a week later. I quite like that option for Pericles who toughed it out to run a place (third behind Buckaroo) in a strongly run Underwood Stakes last start.”

Rediener to defend Epsom title

Chris Waller will run last year’s winner Rediener (Redoute’s Choice) in the G1 Epsom Handicap. “Rediener will be there to defend his title. He has had just the one run after a long lay-off and his run was really good,” Waller told racenet.com.au.

“He had an exhibition gallop at Kembla Grange (last Saturday) and he will be second-up, which will be a big ask, but his first-up run was very good. He got caught wide and wasn't beaten far.” He ran fourth in the G2 Theo Marks S. in his first run this campaign.

Travel no issue for Patterson pair in G1 Arrowfield Plate

New Plymouth based Robbie Patterson will have seen plenty of the central North Island by Wednesday’s G1 Arrowfield Stud Plate at Matamata with his gallopers One Bold Cat (NZ) (The Bold One {NZ}) and Puntura (NZ) (Vespa {NZ}). The meeting was abandoned on Saturday at Hawkes Bay and was shifted to Wednesday.

“After missing New Plymouth, I took a group of horses down to Hawera for a gallop there, treating it as a trip away and a trial,” Patterson told Loveracing.nz. “We were all saddled for the second race at Hastings then we were off home, but that’s the nature of the beast.

“Hopefully we’ve got (One Bold Cat) forward enough for Wednesday, he’ll be finding the line strongly, but it just depends on how far back he gets. This is the best draw he’s had in a long time really, so hopefully we can be reasonably handy and if he is, he won’t be far from them in the finish.”

Of Puntura, he said, “He’s coming along well, it probably didn’t look a good run on paper in the Tarzino but he’s run similar closing sectionals as the winner. He was strong late. … If he goes a good race and is finishing off the mile well, he’ll go to the Livamol. There aren’t that many races for these weight-for-age horses so we’ll have a throw at the stumps.”

Full Force ready for shifted Guineas

With the G2 Hawkes Bay Guineas now running on Wednesday at Matamata, Hollie Wynyard is hoping it will suit Full Force (Cosmic Force). “I think the key to getting these 3-year-old’s up to a mile is getting them to relax early and he seems to do that pretty easily, he can happily sit in behind them,” Wynyard told Loveracing.nz about Full Force’s nomination for the G1 2000 Guineas.

“I’m quietly confident but stakes races are never easy and at this time of the year, there hasn’t been any horse to really put their hand up as the 3-year-old to beat, so we’ll have a go.” Full Force ran third in the Listed El Roca Trophy at his most recent start.

Around The Nation: Monday’s 3-year-old winners

Ben, Will and JD Hayes trained gelding Perfectly Good (Super Seth) won the first on the card at Murrumbidgee Turf Club but it was the Norm Gardner-trained Take The Rap (Star Turn) who stole the show there, winning his second in succession to take his record to three wins from four starts.

Electric Tommy (I Am Immortal) won on debut at Moe to become the sixth winner for second season sire I Am Immortal.

Treble for Stanley at Emerald

Jockey Justin Stanley rode a treble at Emerald’s Monday meeting on Devil Devil (Spirit Of Boom), Knife’s Edge (Warrior’s Reward {USA}) and Bush Diamond (Spirit Of Boom).

Hall doesn’t expect Invincible Sage to win National

Invincible Sage (Thronum) is the only Group 1 winner in the G3 National Day Cup on Tuesday at Sha Tin, but his trainer David Hall doesn’t expect he’ll win. “I'm really happy with his progress but Tuesday is just a starting point for him. It's a handicap race – it ticks a lot of boxes for a few others more so than it does for him. Tuesday is just a starting point,” Hall told racenet.com.au.

“He's not going to be 110 per cent fit on Tuesday, but it's a good place for him to kick off. I could go and trial him again, but he loves the straight track. There's a race there for him which will bring him on for where he needs to be and he's done really well in the off-season. It will be interesting to see with a big weight on a fast track.”

Confirmed runners for The Kosciuszko

Ambitious stakes plan for lightly raced Durazzo

Trainer Barry Campbell’s ambitious plan to get his lightly raced 4-year-old gelding Durazzo (Needs Further) into the Listed Newmarket H. in November became easier when he won on Sunday at Devonport to take his record to three wins from four starts.

“He’s a really nice horse; it’s a big step up from a Class 1 to a 68, but he looked well, travelled well,” Campbell told tasracing.com.au. “We will take him to a Class 3 on the 11th at Mowbray (Launceston) to get him on the grass, and that will give him a month to the Goodwood Hcp; if he can’t win the Goodwood, he won’t get to the Newmarket, but we will have a crack.”

First runners for Eustace in Hong Kong on Tuesday

David Eustace will saddle his first two runners in Hong Kong at Tuesday’s National Cup Day meeting at Sha Tin. Jumbo Fortune (Pride Of Dubai) will tackle the Class 4 Chengdu H. over 1400 metres and Noble Win (Deep Field) runs in the Class 5 Shenyang H. over the same trip.

“I’ve taken my time and waited until the horses are ready. Now they are, so I’m looking forward to it. I certainly wasn’t in a rush or felt pressured to run horses but, of course, we all want to compete. It’s nice to be able to put a saddle back on one in a competitive environment for the first time in a long time,” Eustace told scmp.com.

G2 Santa Anita Sprint adds to MyRacehorse’s big month

'Big' is an underwhelming word to describe the last couple weeks for MyRacehorse and their partners. It started September 21 when Seize the Grey (USA) (Arrogate {USA}) seized the lead in the GI Pennsylvania Derby and never looked back. In Sunday's co-feature in California, it was second verse, same as the first.

Looking every bit the speed of the speed, Straight No Chaser (USA) (Speightster {USA}) dominated the G2 Santa Anita Sprint Championship in just his second start of the season. “They were running,” trainer Dan Blacker said. “He broke really quick today and when I saw him going into the turn, how easy he was going, and we were in the right spot, I felt pretty confident.”

Exciting supplementary lots added to Goffs Orby Sale

A trio of yearlings have been added to Book 1 of the upcoming Goffs Orby Sale. Heading the youngsters is Lot 5A, a colt by Wootton Bassett (GB) out of stakes winner Thai Haku (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}), who is already responsible for listed winner Sarrocchi (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The Irish-bred colt is consigned by Marlhill House Stud.

Offered by Al Eile Stud, Lot 81A, a filly by Siyouni (Fr) is out of An Cailin Orga (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), herself a daughter of European Champion 2-year-old filly and Irish champion older mare Finsceal Beo (Ire).

Rounding out the group is Lot 415A, a filly by St Mark's Basilica (Fr). Consigned by Whitehall Stud, the Irish bred is out of Qatar Princess (Ire) (Marju {Ire}), the dam of listed winner and group placed Flaming Princess (Ire) (Hot Streak {Ire}). Qatar Princess is a half-sister to Hawksmoor (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}), a multiple stakes winner and Group 1/Grade 1-placed on both sides of the Atlantic.
