Two Gun Runner juveniles and a filly bound for the G3 Gimcrack Stakes are amongst the highlights in Richard and Will Freedman's boutique Rosehill stable this spring. In today's Stable Tour, Will previews what's up and coming in the next few months, including targetting the Magic Millions race carnival and the Golden Eagle.

Father-son duo Richard and Will Freedman have been quietly improving their stable since the formation of their partnership in 2022, and they have a number of big goals in mind already for the 2025/26 racing season.

Will Freedman walked TTR through some of their stable stars present and future, including a smart filly heading to the G3 Gimcrack Stakes on Saturday.

Older horses

Elettrica, 7-year-old mare (Vespa (NZ) x Have Your Say {More Than Ready {USA}})

“Unfortunately, after a less than inspiring return to racing, we have decided to send her to stud this season. James Moss from Tri-Colours is going to decide where she goes, I believe Wild Ruler was floated.”

Coastwatch, 7-year-old gelding (Fastnet Rock x Bullion Mansion {Encosta De Lago})

“He was pretty underdone going to Melbourne - bit of trainer error, so ended up being an expensive trial. He is now ready to kick on and have a good prep, he looks a lot fitter and is working very well. You may see him in the Alan Brown next week.”

Magnatear, 6-year-old gelding (Written Tycoon x Cries And Whiskers {Street Cry {Ire}})

“He may run in the Epsom on Saturday, (or he) may wait for the Wild Card. We haven’t drawn that pretty in the Epsom, but he is a horse that makes his own luck, and is suited by handicap conditions.”

Passeggiata, 6-year-old mare (Winning Rupert x Saunter {Exceed And Excel})

“We may see Passeggiata race one more time, but then she is bound to be going to stud. Matthew Sandblom will mate her, but she is a speedy mare, who I’m not sure we saw the best of.”

4-year-olds

Cold Brew, 4-year-old gelding (Pierro x Connemara {Fastnet Rock})

“Cold Brew was bought by clients in Alpha Blokes and Mustr Racing. He will return to the stable later this week, and look to compete through the summer months. He is going to be a very competitive off-carnival horse at the moment.

Duck Egg Blue, 4-year-old mare (I Am Invincible x Surf Poet {Charge Forward})

“Duck Egg will return to racing next week. She was okay first up, but she needs to improve. She’s got a big year ahead of her, she needs to make that next jump into open grade. We think she is capable of it, but she needs to get a wriggle on, otherwise she will go to the breeding barn next year also. She is owned by a group of people who owned Stay Inside.”

Horizons, 4-year-old mare (The Autumn Sun x Sabanci {Encosta De Lago})

“We have got some new owners in her, as well as some of our old existing ones. She won dominantly a couple weeks back, we have her tracking along to have a crack at the Four Pillars if she can win her next. Otherwise, there is a nice race for her on Oaks Day at Flemington.”

Let's Fly, 4-year-old mare (Flying Artie x Aunt Mimi {More Than Ready {USA}})

“She will return to racing on the first of October. If she can win that race, she may go to the Silver Eagle, where she can have a crack at getting into the Golden Eagle. However, she would probably need a soft track to be competitive in that high a race.”

Pleasure Artist, 4-year-old mare (Trapeze Artist x Perfect Pleasure {Pierro})

“Her trials have been fair at this point. Hopefully, she just needs one more to get to fitness. We will probably look to take her through the grades, she’s got a very high benchmark for a horse that is still a Class 1. She’s stakes-placed, but hopefully she can give the owners a thrill this campaign and win a few on the way through.”

Pocketing, 4-year-old gelding (Grunt (NZ) x Pickpocketing {High Chaparral {Ire}})

“Pocketing will run in the BM94 at Randwick on Saturday over the mile, hopefully he will be more than competitive there. Then we will look at different races there after. His return to racing was very encouraging, with two good starts to resume. If he looks capable, a trip over to West Australia wouldn’t be off the cards.”

Zoubaby, 4-year-old mare (Zoustar x Magnaflight {Magnus})

“She was a bit disappointing first up, but the track and race shape didn’t suit her. She will be better for the run, and hopefully win or be competitive in her next start over 1100 metres. She ran home in 33.25s, she can’t go much quicker than that.”

3-year-olds

Fullalove, 3-year-old family (All Too Hard x Gamba {Elusive Quality {USA}})

“Nice filly, we probably expected her to win first up, but she will take benefit from the run. Looks like a filly that will get over seven to eight furlongs.”

Vivian's Express, 3-year-old filly (Capitalist x Yes To The Dress {Congrats {USA}})

“Won impressively first up, but unfortunately has had a few setbacks with her health, however she seems fully recovered now. She will return to the trials in a couple of weeks, and try and get on a roll from there. If she was able to string a few together, the Magic Millions wouldn’t be out of the question.”

Yes I Win, 3-year-old colt (Yes Yes Yes x Shamani (NZ) {Shamexpress {NZ}})

“He was quite disappointing last start, in a race where he got left flat footed. He will be gelded and return in the autumn.”

Zocketman, 3-year-old colt (Zousain x Thurlow {Sebring})

“Nice horse. He returned to the trials in good order, will trial again in the next fortnight, then hopefully go through the grades throughout the summer.”

2-year-olds

Unnamed 2-year-old colt (Sword of State x Imanana {More Than Ready {USA}})

Bought for NZ$100,000 by Richard and Will Freedman from Cambridge Stud at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.

“We really like this horse, he’s a beautiful type that looks early. Great attitude, quiet, composed, and learning quickly. We have a good opinion of him.”

Unnamed 2-year-old colt (Gun Runner (USA) x Originator (USA) {Artie Schiller {USA})

Bought for $575,000 by YLP Racing from Widden Stud at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

“We ended up with both Gun Runners from Easter, this one is owned by Yulong. Lovely action, a little bit hot under the collar, but as he gets used to the system, he will settle down.

Unnamed 2-year-old filly (Gun Runner (USA) x One More Honey {Onemorenomore})

Bought for $300,000 by Richard and Will Freedman from Emirates Park at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

“Nice filly, got some sass about her. Lovely action, not a pre-Christmas 2-year-old. More a later 2-year-old type, but another with a good action.”

Written In Munny, 2-year-old colt (Written Tycoon x Always Inthe Munny (USA) {Munnings {USA}})

Bought for $360,000 by Kurrinda Bloodstock and Richard and Will Freedman from Segenhoe Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

“An early 2-year-old, he nearly made the 2-year-old trials, but just went off his feed in the last few days. Good action, Tommy Berry galloped him before he went out and rated him highly, hopefully he comes back just as well.”

Bold Bucks, 2-year-old colt (Capitalist x Impetuous {Fastnet Rock})

Bought for $180,000 by Richard and Will Freedman from Tyreel Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

“Nice early 2-year-old with an all female syndicate, we’re trying to get him ready for the Magic Millions 2YO race. He should be at the trials in the next fortnight.”

Doubella, 2-year-old filly (Doubtland x Anthelion {Sepoy})

Passed in at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale when offered by Segenhoe Stud.

“She won her 2-year-old trial at Randwick. She’s going to the Gimcrack, Tommy Berry rides, hopefully she can debut strongly and get some black-type early in her career.”
