Within The Law in demand
The offering of two shares - one of 6.5% and one of 5% - in the exciting and proven filly Within The Law (Lucky Vega {Ire}) presented buyers with a rare chance to buy into a well-performed 3-year-old with strong racing credentials, genuine broodmare appeal, and further upside on the track.
The two shares, which topped the Magic Millions sale, were being sold by receivers of Within The Law’s part-owner David McWilliams. She was bred by Yulong and sold to syndicator Darby Racing for $30,000 at the 2024 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
The 6.5% share was secured by Yulong under the Highway Farm banner for $85,000, while the 5% share also went to Highway Farm for $80,000. Together, the shares value the filly at just over $1.4 million.

Within The Law won the R. Listed Inglis 2YO at Flemington on debut as a pre-Christmas juvenile, before adding the R. Listed Nursery at Randwick and the G2 Sweet Embrace Stakes. She also placed as a 2-year-old in the R. Listed Millennium, the G1 Champagne Stakes, and the G3 Percy Sykes Stakes.
As a 3-year-old she has endured her share of bad luck, including several wide barriers, but still managed placings in the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes and the G1 Flight Stakes. She is currently spelling at Wild Oaks ahead of an Autumn Carnival campaign and shapes as an ideal prospect for the $10 million Golden Eagle next spring.
Within The Law boasts a strong pedigree. She is by the exciting young Yulong Stud stallion Lucky Vega (Ire) and is the first foal out of the placed Dundeel (NZ) mare Contract Signed. Contract Signed has since produced a 2-year-old colt by Tagaloa and foaled a Lucky Vega colt last month.

Her grandam So Much Joy (Red Ransom {USA}) is a half-sister to Champion UAE sprinter and G1 winner Sterling City (Nadeem), as well as to the G2 Tulloch Stakes and Listed Adelaide Guineas winner Tipungwuti. This is also the family of G1 winner Kementari (Lonhro) and stakes winners Telperion, Silmarillion (Too Darn Hot {GB}), Prix De Turn (NZ) (Turn Me Loose {NZ}) and Express Pass (Wandjina).
A full to a Group 1 Oaks placegetter sells for $30,000
Lot 8 – Gioia River (The Autumn Sun) was purchased by Malcolm Gladwell for $30,000. The winning 4-year-old daughter of The Autumn Sun appealed as a full sister to the Victorian Oaks Preview winner and placegetter in the G1 Victorian Oaks in After Summer (The Autumn Sun).
The Autumn Sun is an exciting young sire on a sharp upward trajectory. A son of the legendary Redoute’s Choice, he has already produced five Group 1 winners - Autumn Glow, Autumn Angel, Vibrant Sun, Coco Sun and Autumn Boy - and his stock is in increasingly high demand.
Gioia River presents genuine upside both on the track and as a broodmare. Attractive and athletic, she reflects her $175,000 yearling price tag and strong pedigree. Bred by Arrowfield Stud, she hails from an active and developing family. Arrowfield have retained her dam Al Jasrah, who has a Hitotsu filly catalogued for Magic Millions this January.

Her dam, Al Jasrah (Ire) (Shirocco {Ger}), raced only once, but is a half-sister to Debonnaire (GB) (Anabaa {USA}), the dam of Hartnell (GB) (Authorized {Ire}), a four-time Group 1 winner in Australia. Debonnaire is also the dam of the Listed winner Roz (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}), and the Listed-placed Dominetta (Zoustar) and Ursula (USA) (Tapit {USA}).

Lexy Rose (Snitzel), a metropolitan-winning mare at Eagle Farm two starts ago, also attracted attention. The daughter of Snitzel, she comes from a deep international family and is a half-sister to the only Australian-bred mare to win a Group 1 in America, Oleksandra (Animal Kingdom {USA}). Lexy Rose is also a half-sister to the dam of World Of Alice (Saf) (One World {Saf}), a multiple Group winner and Group 1 placegetter in South Africa.
A 10% share in Lexy Rose sold for $5,500 to Jiah Falck, valuing the mare at $55,000.

His dam, Full Of Beans (Smart Missile), is a half-sister to the high-quality filly Kenedna (Not A Single Doubt), a dual Group 1 winner of the Queen Of The Turf Stakes and Doomben Cup, and winner of five other Group races. Full Of Beans is also a half-sister to G2 BTC Cup winner and successful sire Spill The Beans, sire of Group 1 winner Ellsberg before his untimely death.

This is also the family of G1 winner Speak Fondly (Northern Meteor) and Group winners Yammer (Bellotto {USA}), Blab (Flying Spur), Wild And Proud (Snowland) and the great Bounding Away (Biscay), a six-time Group 1 winner including the Golden Slipper, Blue Diamond and Australian Oaks.
“We were very happy with the results on behalf of our clients,” Nathan Bennett noted. “The team at Magics were in constant communication throughout and the platform looks great.”
Hot Affair sells for $18,000
Hot Affair (Too Darn Hot {GB}) was secured by Warwick Racing for $18,000, offering her new owners a dual-purpose opportunity. The well-bred filly has trialled - and while she has not set the trials alight - she remains unraced and unexposed. With her pedigree, she would slot into many broodmare bands even if racing is not her forte.
Although a small filly at 14.3 hands, she boasts an impressive pedigree.

Hot Affair is by Too Darn Hot (GB) and is the first foal from Affair To Remember (Toronado {Ire}), winner of the G2 Matriarch Stakes and placed in the G1 Australasian Oaks and the Listed Ballarat Cup.

Valetudo finishes the sale at $22K
Valetudo (GB) (Zoustar) was the final lot offered in the online sale and sold to L. Patterson for $22,500. The British-bred daughter of Zoustar is out of a winning War Front (USA) mare who also ran fourth at Listed level in France.
Valetudo began her career in England, where she had four starts, before being imported. She has now had 11 starts for two wins and four placings, including metropolitan success upon arrival in Australia.
